Q&A with Midwife Meghan: Breastfeeding Tips Every New Parent Should Know
Every feeding journey is unique, some days feel effortless while others can feel overwhelming. However your journey unfolds, having trusted advice, a comfortable space and the confidence to follow your baby's lead can make all the difference.
This Feeding Week, we partnered with Midwife Meghan to answer some of the questions many new parents ask about breastfeeding. From understanding feeding patterns to creating a calm feeding environment, her advice is designed to help you feel supported through every stage.
How often should my newborn feed?
"Every baby is different, but newborns usually feed 10 or more times in 24 hours, and often even more than that. Rather than watching the clock, look for your baby's early feeding cues like rooting, stirring or bringing their hands to their mouth.”
With so many feeds each day, having a comfortable place to settle makes a difference. A supportive nursery chair for breastfeeding gives you somewhere to relax and focus on your baby, whether it's the first feed of the morning or one in the middle of the night.
Is cluster feeding normal?
"Yes. Cluster feeding is very common, particularly during growth spurts. Your baby may want to feed much more frequently over several hours or even a couple of days. It's completely normal."
Long feeding sessions are much easier when you're properly supported. Features like comfortable armrests, supportive cushioning and a smooth recline help you stay comfortable while your baby feeds.
When should I introduce a bottle?
"Every family's feeding journey is different. Some parents introduce a bottle once breastfeeding is established, while others do so earlier. The most important thing is finding what works for you and your baby."
Whether you're breastfeeding, bottle feeding, expressing or combination feeding, your nursery chair quickly becomes part of your daily routine.
